Karolina and Ashley got a lesson on tropical flower harvesting- which is worlds away from flower-picking on the mainland. You can't cut flowers here with scissors, you need a heavy-duty machete or sickle....and it is actually hard work as many of the stalks are 5-10 inches thick! The girls did a great job learning how to handle a sickle safely, how to propagate gingers and ti's, and the proper way to mulch the flowers after harvesting. Trianna became an expert flower-picker during her time here, and has now gone on to do flower arrangements for parties, and events all over the island. It is a beautiful thing to watch someone get inspired, and to discover a passion that they didn't know they had. We only managed to cover the lower half of the property so far, so next week we will continue through the property filling armloads and buckets full of breathtaking flowers that truly do not look of this world.
