WELCOME TO HANA FARMS

This tiny stand began as a little white tent over a little wooden table- about a dozen loaves of banana bread and a little box to slide your money into. Within a week it was clear to see that Pauls banana bread was no usual banana bread. Over and over again we would hear, "that is the best banana bread in the world!!!". And within the month he had requests to send hundreds of loaves each week over to the mainland. This meant hiring some helpers (which is where I came in), and upgrading our sad little tent to a larger tent, which eventually became the beautiful balinese huts that we have now. The people just kept pouring in, and the banana bread began to take on new flavors. Chocolate chip banana bread and the macadamea nut were an instant hit. Then, more creativity began to flow....rum raisin, mango, pineapple, papaya, lilikoi...what ever fruit was abundant- Paul would come up with a bread for it.

We watched as other stands caught on to the banana bread phenomenon. Finally the community decided that there should be a contest to see who had the best banana bread on the island. There were hundreds of applicants, and guess what? WE WON FIRST PLACE!!!! It was confirmed. We don't advertise our breads, it is completely word of mouth, and we have so many loyal customers. It also helps that we have hot loaves coming out of the oven every hour!

In 2007, we began to expand our products. Manu was the first to begin making jams from our akala berries, surinam cherries and even making delicious banana chutney. Soon, we realized that we could better support our community by not only purchasing large deliveries of fruit from the community, but also by encouraging, and teaching about organic farming. We amped up our intern program so that we had enough helping hands to make this dream into a reality. And soon, our neighbors and local families began coming with truck-loads of rainforest abundance. We then began teaching willing students how to turn this abundance into delectable culinary creations....writing our own cookbook as we went along. The results have been amazing. Not only are the local growers and families of Hana supported, but they now view their land as something more economically viable. The interns who come out to learn about organic farming, also learn about how to make value added, long lasting products from the harvests, and we now have an amazing community working together at Hana Farms.

We now making our own bread, jams/jellies, hot sauces, mac nut candy, coconut candy, mac nut toffee, sorbet and ice-cream, salads, dried fruit snacks, chutneys, smoothies, small batches of coffee, sugar-cane rum, raw cacao treats....We are only limited by our imagination.

A big Mahalo to all of our loyal customers, to all of the wonderful people in our community who have made this dream a reality, for your support, and feedback. We feel so blessed to be part of such a magical place, with such loving people, being able to make loving food.
